Title
Graphical programming tools for realtime motion control
Description
This thesis looks at Clam, Scilab and Octave, and investigates what needs to be added to (or changed in) these software frameworks in order to make them attractive to motion control engineers. Roughly speaking: "How to turn them into a LabView or dSpace replacement?". The thesis also identifies common infrastructure code that these (and other control oriented) frameworks could share; more in particular, it builds RTDM-based device drivers for motion control applications, integrated with the ongoing RTDM-efforts for Comedi.
Required degree
Engineering, with interest in motion control
Expected skills
Device driver writing, graphical user interfaces, middleware (not necessarily in the same person, since this work should be shared by different people).
Estimated duration
Concrete scope and results of the thesis will be adapted to the available time of the students. Typical duration: 3 to 6 months.
Administrative details
Details are to be determined by the home university of the student; for example, if it is possible to have Prof. Bruyninckx as external co-supervisor of the thesis. We have experience with hosting ERASMUS students.
