OSADL Legal Academy

(Deutsche Version)

Rationale

Today, Open Source software is no longer predominantly used inhouse, but most of it is conveyed in products. In contrast to inhouse use, however, conveying Open Source software requires important license obligations to fulfill that, in turn, require the establishment of appropriate company processes. As the vast majority of Open Source software containing products are embedded systems and they normally are based on Linux, OSADL members and customers rightfully expect OSADL to provide related legal services. This was the rationale behind creating the OSADL Legal Academy.

Service offers

Legal Seminars (also inhouse) on Open Source topics

Alongside our clients’ demands, the Software Compliance Academy develops and implements effective and efficient compliance systems and related training modules that protect your values from inside throughout organizational knowledge building.

License Compliance through established audits (OSADL LCA)

For products that contain Open Source software OSADL offers a service to help manufacturers to comply with their license obligations. The logo is registered as trademark and will be established as a cachet. Suppliers of board support packages and other Open Source software providers may then print the logo on their products and use it as a hallmark of certified license compliance. For more information please click here.

Legal knowledge database (FAQ)

For all OSADL members an FAQ collection on legal aspects of using Open Source in a commercial environment is provided that represents years of legal community work on practical aspects of licensing within industry.

Legal assessments on specific Open Source aspects

If your company has a very specific request that requires a juridical assessment, the Software Compliance Academy will find experts and solutions that are precisely tailored to your requirements.

FOSSology

We help you scan, detect and analyze which Open Source software licenses are contained and which obligations do they entail. Part of this support is obtained using FOSSology, a professional software license scanning toolkit.
