What is HOT?

HOT = Heidelberg OSADL Talks are open information events that take place several times a year. Participants will get an overview of the fundamental legal aspects (Legal HOT) and technical aspects (Technical HOT) when using Open Source software in industrial products and will learn how OSADL can provide support.

Legal HOT and Technical HOT may be booked either separately or as package. The conference language is English.

Please note: Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, both HOT fall dates on September 29 and September 30, 2020 were also held virtually by live video streams and video conference.

Who can attend HOT?

  • Employees of OSADL member companies whose in-house OSADL information day took place some time ago and/or who would like to get an update on the legal and technical prerequisites when using Open Source software in industrial products as well as on current OSADL projects and services.   
  • New employees of OSADL member companies who are connected with Open Source software and who do not yet know OSADL and its services and who would like to get an overall information on the legal and technical requirements when using Open Source software in industrial products.
  • Companies that are not yet OSADL members and whose employees want to get acquainted with OSADL, its projects and services and get to know OSADL better before or in addition to an in-house OSADL information day for their company.

When and where does HOT take place?

In 2020 HOT will take place on the following dates:

  • Spring dates (These events have passed):
    • Tuesday, April 28, 2020 (Legal HOT) - Virtual, by video conference
    • Wednesday, April 29, 2020 (Technical HOT) - Virtual, by video conference
  • Fall dates (These events have passed):
    • Tuesday, September 29, 2020 (Legal HOT)
    • Wednesday, September 30, 2020 (Technical HOT)


Legal HOT and Technical HOT may be booked either separately or as package. Participants may select a suitable date when registering.

The HOT event in fall on September 29 and September 30, 2020 will also be held virtually by live video stream.

How to ask questions during the sessions?

Of course, participants may ask questions during the video conference following the live video streams either by directly talking to the speakers or using the chat function. In addition, participants may submit questions using the question form we have designed for that purpose: Question form

Questions will be answered online if they arrive in time during the live streams and video conference or by email if they arrive after the end of the sessions.
