Initial Phase Deliverables

The whole point of such a working group only makes sense if the outcome of the working group hold a noticeable benefit for the participants and for the other members of OSADL, thus the initial document set is focused on answering typical show-stoppers when introducing GNU/Linux in an industrial environment. The goal is not to create some high-flying pre-standard, but to stay on the grounds of daily engineering work and project level decisions. These documents need to :

  • set the context of deploying GNU/Linux in industrial safety critical systems
  • provide answers to the critical questions
  • give guidance to implementing GNU/Linux based solutions
  • encourage building of a community around these efforts
  • integrate into the environment provided by OSADL

The initial deliverables shall be:

  • Core technology documentation
  • Kernel Selection Guide
  • OS Distribution assessment and selection guide)s=
  • Tool assessment and selection guides along with usage guides
  • Material for in-house and OSADL provided training on GNU/Linux in safety critical systems.

Prototype documents for these steps will be provided by DSLab based on its past industrial training efforts and based on its assessment and research projects done in industrial context - these initial prototypes should not preclude the development of different guides or styles though - the intention is simply to have a concrete basis for discussion and improvement.
