Axel Metzger

Professor of law and internationally recognized expert on licensing and copyright law

Axel Metzger attended the universities of Hamburg, Germany, and Paris, France, studying law and graduating in 1998. He then wrote a thesis on "Rechtsgeschäfte über das Droit moral im deutschen und französischen Urheberrecht" in Munich, Germany, and in Paris, France.

In 2000, Metzger co-founded the private "Institute of legal aspects of Free and Open Source Software (ifrOSS)" and became one of the institute's managers.

Since 2000, Metzger is also teaching law at the Hamburg University and, since 2002, at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hannover, Germany.

In 2008, Prof. Axel Metzger was elected professor of the chair of law at the Institute of Legal Informatics of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hannover, Germany.
