Open Source Software for Automation and Other Industries
"What is impossible for the individual, many can do."
Throughout history, the advancement of universal knowledge has rested on the contributions of many that facilitate a continuing series of inspired innovations and discoveries.
"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." | "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." | "What is impossible for the individual, many can do." |
Open Source software follows in this tradition
In making program sources available, Open Source software seeks to maximize the benefits that result from a number of individuals working to develop and improve application solutions. Individual contributions build upon the existing collective body of knowledge.
Other means to respond to the unique needs of the Automation Industry
Open Source is not the only way of developing and distributing software services, and may not always be appropriate. OSADL certainly acknowledges that there are cases where other distribution methods such as binary distributions of closed-source have their place.
