Nicholas Mc Guire's classes at the Embedded World Conference have a long tradition. Every serious embedded and real-time system programmer should have attended them at least once.

What has this to do with OSADL?

OSADL is glad that Nicholas Mc Guire accepted some time ago to join the OSADL team and act as OSADL's Safety Coordinator. In addition, Nicholas is the Technical Consultant of the Real Time Linux Foundation and as such a member of OSADL's Real Time Linux Foundation Working Group that was formed on January 1st, 2009.

Open-Source/Free Software (FLOSS) have made their way into many commercial projects notably in the consumer electronics arena. In the past years, there also has been a strong adaptation of FLOSS in industrial application areas. FLOSS is a great resource, but it is not the answer to all problems in industry, most notably it is not a panic button... In this seminar we outline the key issues of FLOSS and the transition from traditional development life-cycles to FLOSS based development.
