How to create a Linux RTOS kernel and ensure it's real-time?

by Carsten Emde, Open Source Automation Development Lab (OSADL) eG

Although many of the important components of the PREEMPT_RT patches made it to Linux mainline in recent years, there is still some patch work required to create a state-of-the-art Linux RTOS kernel. In addition, some non-default configuration items should better be selected and some other often selected ones better should not. This half-day hands-on seminar will go through the entire workflow of patching, configuring, compiling, installing and testing a PREEMPT_RT Linux kernel. At the end of the seminar, every participant will have a working Linux RTOS running on his or her computer brought along and possess the knowledge to turn a Linux system into a Linux RTOS wherever required.
