The Technical University of Applied Sciences Regensburg (OTH Regensburg) is one of the biggest Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany. The department of Computer Science and Mathematics has more than 1500 students and features a top position in the influential German CHE ranking published by "Die Zeit".

The Digitalisation Laboratory was founded in 2015 under the academic supervision of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Mauerer. Its focus is on bridging the gap between fundamental research and industrial applications.

Besides work with low-level aspects of industrial embedded systems such as mixed criticality or real time operating systems, research activities deal with the quantitative analysis of sociological and evolutionary dynamics of distributed software development. The laboratory maintains Codeface, an open source framework for socio-technical project analysis, and PaStA, a tool for patch stack analysis, see https://github.com/lfd.

In a synthesis of both topics, the lab addresses the challenges of combining rapid innovation cycles of OSS with the requirements of long-lasting industrial systems.
