With more than 9,000 employees and an annual budget of about EUR 785 million, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is one of the largest and most prominent research, education, and innovation institutions worldwide.

The Department of Informatics is the oldest and largest academic computer science department in Germany and consistently holds a top position in domestic and international rankings. The Intelligent Process Control and Robotics Research Lab (IPR) at the Institute for Anthropomatics and Robotics (IAR) conducts research in robotics, machine learning, safety in human-robot interaction, and software systems for industrial automation. Application domains are industrial robotics and automation, service robotics, and medical systems.
