Real-time Ethernet (Powerlink) packet interval and jitter analysis

One of the Linux real-time test systems (rack #b, slot #5) runs a Powerlink master kernel module that is connected to a B&R X20BC0083 Powerlink I/O node and is continuously sending cyclic system data at an interval of 500 µs. The packet stream is monitored using a B&R X20ET8819 Powerlink network analyzer (a figure of the setup is available in the related section of the QA Farm "About" page). The plots below are generated from 5-minute minimum, mean and maximum values of the packet interval as determined by the network analyzer. Considering a cycle time of 500 µs, the interval data and the jitter of the below 30-h plots are each based on a total of 216,000,000 individual timed cycles. In addition, the maxima per week, per month and per year can be displayed separately, and irregular events, if any, are stored in a data base. Manufacturers may use such long-term data for certification and similar purposes.
